In February 2023, the ECU Board of Trustees reaffirmed its commitment to academic freedom and freedom of expression as embodied in the Code of the Board of Governors of the University of North Carolina System that establishes that the UNC System is “dedicated to the transmission and advancement of knowledge and understanding” and “Academic Freedom is essential to the achievement of these purposes.”
